Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about how IEIS works.

What can a private investigator legally do in California?

A licensed PI can research public records, locate people, interview witnesses, document scenes, and conduct lawful surveillance in public places. A PI cannot:

  • pose as a police officer or other government official
  • enter private property or buildings without consent
  • illegally access phone, bank, or DMV records
  • wiretap or record confidential conversations without consent
  • place a GPS tracker on someone's vehicle without consent (Penal Code 637.7)

IEIS works strictly within the law, so the facts we find can be trusted and used.

Is my case kept confidential?

Yes. Your identity, your matter, and our findings are shared only with you or people you authorize, unless the law requires otherwise.

How does pricing work?

Most cases are billed hourly against a retainer, and some defined tasks can be done for a flat fee. You'll get a clear written estimate and agreement before any work begins, with no surprise charges.

How long does a case take?

It depends on the work. Simple records research may take a few days, while surveillance or complex investigations can take weeks. We'll give you a realistic timeline up front and keep you updated.

Who do you work for?

Attorneys, insurance carriers and TPAs, businesses, and private individuals across Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including the Coachella Valley.

Can your reports be used in court?

Reports are written to be clear, factual, and well documented, with proper chain of custody for evidence. Whether something is admitted is up to the court and your attorney, and the investigator is available to testify when needed.

How do I get started?

Send a short request through the contact form below. We'll set up a confidential consultation, talk through your goals, and confirm scope and cost in writing before starting.

How quickly will you respond?
